This volume—edited by our Artistic Director, Maestro Giuseppe D’Amico—forms part of a broader artistic and cultural project dedicated to the rediscovery of lesser-known works by Ludwig van Beethoven, a foundational figure of modern Western music. The initiative was born from the need to bring together musicological research, repertoire enhancement, and public outreach, returning to a wider audience an as-yet unexplored portion of Beethoven’s legacy.
Through a selection of concise essays and in-depth studies, the book offers a contemporary re-reading of the composer’s thought and output, without sacrificing scholarly rigor. Its aim is twofold: on the one hand, to provide tools for study and reflection for musicologists, performers, and researchers; on the other, to engage a broader public—one that recognizes music as a universal language and a shared cultural heritage.
Particular attention is given to music’s active and dynamic role within the social fabric. The project seeks to foster new ways of listening and participation by promoting performances of symphonic masterpieces in transcribed versions for smaller ensembles—formats that are also suitable for smaller communities, such as villages and local cultural centers.
The book is conceived as an instrument of knowledge, but also as an act of cultural responsibility: bringing to light works that have been unjustly overlooked means helping to shape a future in which beauty, art, and historical memory can be fully shared and accessible.
